What is Shot Defender™ made from?
Shot Defender™ is a polyurethane elastomer resin engineered for ballistic applications. Polyurethanes provide excellent mechanical properties including high tear resistance, impact resistance, and flexibility — making them ideal for ballistic protection.
What is the difference between 40D and 70D?
The 40D variant (Shore hardness 40D) is designed for integration with existing ballistic systems, stopping light arms and mitigating shrapnel. The 70D variant offers dramatically improved standalone stopping power — reducing 9mm penetration from 3.25″ to just 1″ and stopping .45 ACP FMJ rounds outright.
How heavy is Shot Defender™?
Both variants weigh just 4.85 lbs per board foot (12″x12″ at 1″ thick). This lightweight profile makes Shot Defender™ an efficient addition to existing protection systems without significant weight penalty.
Can Shot Defender™ be used as standalone armor?
The 70D variant has demonstrated excellent standalone ballistic protection in testing, including stopping .45 ACP and .44 Magnum rounds. However, its true potential is unlocked when integrated with complementary defense systems, dramatically amplifying overall stopping power.
Is an optically clear version available?
Yes. Our optically clear 70D variant is currently undergoing field testing and UV testing. Results are expected early 2026. Contact us for the latest status and to discuss potential applications.
